The first Winter Youth Olympics began in Innsbruck, Austria on Friday.

An inauguration ceremony for the new games was held at the Bergisel ski jumping stadium to kick off ten days of competition.

Olympic gold medalist Kim Yuna was also present at the event to light the Olympic torch as an ambassador for the Games.

From South Korea, Kim Dong-woo will compete in alpine skiing and Park So-yeon in figure skating.

A total of one-thousand-59 athletes will vie for medals in 63 competitions until Jan 22.
