More Snow Expected for Gangwon's Mountain Regions

The eastern part of Gangwon Province saw heavy snowfall overnight on Thursday and is expected to see more.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said Friday that around six centimeters of snow fell in the eastern parts of Gangwon Province.

As of Friday morning, 68-and-a-half centimeters of snow had fallen on Hyangnyo Peak, 62 centimeters had piled up in Misiryeong, and 35-and-a-half centimeters had collected in the Daegwallyeong mountain pass.

The weather agency said five to 20 more centimeters of snow are expected accumulate in the mountain regions through Saturday evening, adding some of those areas may see up to 30 centimeters of snowfall.

The agency also said 20 to 50 millimeters of rain will fall in other regions in the eastern part of Gangwon Province.

The agency advised caution in looking after facilities, including greenhouses, as more snow is expected.
