A heavy snow watch has been issued for mountain regions in Gangwon Province for the first time this winter.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said Wednesday that around 21 centimeters of snow fell on Hyangnyo Peak located between Goseong and Inje in Gangwon Province. The Daegwallyeong mountain pass, also in Gangwon Province, saw around eight-and-a-half centimeters of snow.

The weather agency said that Gangwon’s mountain regions are expected to see ten to 30 more centimeters of snow through Thursday, adding that some areas might see up to 50 centimeters.

The agency forecast that five to ten centimeters of snow will fall in the cities Gangneung and Sokcho.
