World-class research centers in the nation are set to receive an additional support of 36-billion won over the next three years.
The Education, Science and Technology Ministry and the National Research Foundation of Korea conducted an interim test on three research institutes, including one at Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST), a cancer research center at the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Technology, and a fusion theory center at the National Fusion Research Institute. They said the three had published a total of 69 papers in world-class journals and had seen excellent results.
The ministry and the foundation made the decision to increase funding as the domestic centers have demonstrated its growing global network for research and cooperation with world-renowned research institutes, including Harvard Medical School and Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in the U.S. as well as Germany’s Max Planck institutes.
