S.Korea's Samsung Beats Australia in Asia Series

South Korea has beat Australia in the opening game of the 2011 Asia Series baseball tournament.

In the match held on Friday in Taiwan, the Samsung Lions defeated Australia’s Perth Heat 10-to-2 thanks to the stellar performances by starting pitcher Jang Won-sam and Shin Myung-chul with his base-loaded homer.

Samsung will face Japan’s winner, the Fukuoka SoftBank Hawks, on Saturday at 1 p.m.

The Asia Series is a baseball tournament among the year’s champion teams from South Korea, Japan, Taiwan and Australia, all of whom are vying for a multimillion dollar pot.
