S. Korea Olympic Soccer Team Retains Top Spot in Group A

South Korea’s Olympic soccer team tied Qatar’s team one-to-one at the third and final round of the Asian soccer qualification for the 2012 London Olympic Games. The match was played at the Al-Sadd Stadium in Doha on Wednesday.

The first goal of the game was scored by Qatar during the 42nd minute. South Korea’s goal came during the 23rd minute in the second half.

With the tie, South Korea continues to lead Group A with four points.

Oman beat Saudi Arabia two-to-zero to rank second in Group A with three points.

South Korea is in Group A with Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Oman in the Olympic final preliminaries. Twelve nations total will hold a total of six matches in a home and away format. The leader of each group will secure berths at the Olympics and the second-ranked team will need to earn a spot through playoffs.
