South and North Korea’s table tennis players will join forces for the Qatar Peace and Sport Cup, which will open in Doha on Tuesday.

South Korea’s Ryu Seung-min will partner with North Korea’s Kim Hyok-bong to play against China’s Chen Qi and Qatar’s Ahmad Al-Mohannadi.

South Korea’s Kim Kyung-ah will join forces with North Korea’s Kim Hye-song in a women’s double event against a Japanese-French joint team.

Since the 1991 World Championships held in Chiba, Japan, this marks the first time in 20 years that the two Koreas created a joint team for an international table tennis event.

The Qatar Peace and Sport Cup is an international friendly competition hosted by the International Table Tennis Federation.
