Temperatures plunged overnight to a record minus two-point-three degrees Celsius in capital Seoul Monday morning, the lowest this season. The first ice was reported in Seoul and Incheon on Sunday.
Most parts of the nation, excluding the south coast, reported subzero temperatures in the morning, including minus seven-point-eight in Cheorwon and minus two-point-four in Daejon.
The Korea Meteorological Administration advises people to take extra caution in regards to their health. It also warned farmers to be careful regarding the management of their crops.
The cold snap is forecast to let up in the afternoon, and normal temperatures are expected for Tuesday. However, the mercury will plunge again after the nationwide rainfall between Tuesday night and early Wednesday.
Afternoon highs will be higher on Monday, ranging from four to eleven degrees with clear skies expected for most regions.
