A new study shows that the continued intake of red ginseng helps ease the symptoms of menopause.

The study was conducted on 72 menopausal women aged between 45 and 60 by a medical team at Severance Hospital in Seoul.

The women were divided into two groups. One group was given three grams of powdered red ginseng every day for 12 weeks while the other group was given a placebo.

The study shows that the continued intake of red ginseng eased postmenopausal symptoms like depression, hot flashes and night sweats by 30 percent.

It also found that red ginseng helps reduce risks of cardiovascular diseases, as cholesterol levels dropped 20 percent and the inner wall of the carotid artery thinned by four percent among the women who ate red ginseng powder.

The findings were published in the latest online issue of the North American Menopause Society’s journal.
