A memorial service has been held for renowned South Korean mountaineer Park Young-seok and two fellow climbers who went missing in the Himalayas nearly two weeks ago.

At the base camp of the mountain Sunday, the families of the missing climbers met with rescue team members who have been searching for Park and the others.

As they consoled the spirits of the missing in front of an altar, the grieving wife of climber Shin Dong-min fell to the floor while Park's eldest son wept as he held his father's bracelet.

The families left the base camp after the ceremony and moved to a Buddhist temple in downtown Katmandu, Nepal where memorial tablets of the three climbers are enshrined.

The Korean Alpine Federation will set up a memorial altar in Seoul next month.

The three went missing October 18th while heading for the summit of Mount Annapurna on its south face in the Himalayas.
