David Rudisha of Kenya takes off aggressively from the starting blocks in the men’s 800 meter final at the World Athletics Championships in Daegu.

Rudisha, the world record holder in the event, broke away from the pack early in the race and maintained his lead until he crossed the finish line.

From the six-hundred meter mark, Rudisha turned on the juice and sprinted to victory. He fell short of his own world record by two seconds, clocking in at one-minute and 43.91 seconds.

Rudisha is a member of the Maasai tribe in Kenya. With this win, he took his first gold in major competition.
