Grenada's James Wins Men’s 400 meters at World Championships in Daegu

The 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics has wrapped up five events during its fourth day in Daegu.

In the men’s 400 meters, Kirani James from Grenada came in first place with a time of 44-point-60 seconds, beating out by a split second his personal best of 44-point-61. LaShawn Merritt from the U.S. was just a nose behind, coming in second place with 44-point-63 seconds, and Kévin Borlée from Belgium grabbing hold of the bronze at 44-point-90 seconds.

In the women’s pole vault, Fabiana Murer from Brazil grabbed the gold with a jump of four-point-85 meters, with Martina Strutz from Germany winning the silver at four-point-85 meters, and Svetlana Feofanova from Russia snatching the bronze at four-point-75. Russia’s two-time Olympic champion Yelena Isinbayeva failed to defend her title by winning a medal as she was able to clear only the first height during the final round.

Other gold medalists from today's events include Yuliya Zaripova from Russia in the women's 3000 meters steeplechase, David Lekuta Rudisha from Kenya in the men's 800 meters, and Robert Harting from Germany in the men's discus throw.
