The audience applauded as Oscar Pistorius walked onto the track ahead of the men’s 400-meter semifinal.

Known as the “Blade Runner,” Pistorius is the first double amputee to have won the right to compete in the IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

Running with the aid of two Flex-Foot Cheetah artificial legs, the 24-year-old crossed the finish line in last place with a time of 46.19 seconds. However, his performance was outstanding in the competition against non-physically disabled athletes.

The South African sprinter said that he was satisfied with the result in the 400-meter race even though he didn’t advance to the final. He said he will also do his best in the 16-hundred-meter relay.

Pistorius’s limitless challenge has touched the hearts of people around the world.
