Domestic Researchers Fully Sequence All Chinese Cabbage DNA

A domestic team of researchers has succeeded in sequencing all genomes of Chinese cabbage for the first time in the world.

The Rural Development Administration said that it fully sequenced 284 million strands of DNA that exist in ten chromosomes of Chinese cabbage.

The administration said the cabbage has a total of about 41-thousand genes and one-thousand groups of those genes are unique to the vegetable.

Chinese cabbage has also been found to contain an anticancer gene, and it is expected that cabbages with fortified anticancer functions will be developed.

The DNA sequencing will be published in the international academic journal “Nature Genetics.”
