Daegu citizens are cheering for the athletes competing in the 13th IAAF World Championships in Athletics.

They wave the national flags of the athletes’ home countries they support. They shout words of encouragement at the top of their lungs.

Some 17-thousand citizens have volunteered to serve as supporters of the athletes. They show up in every major sporting event to applaud the competitors.

The athletes seem to be touched by the warm welcome and enthusiastic cheering from South Korean people.

The citizen supporters invite foreign athletes to tours around the city when they aren’t competing.

The citizens act as the good patrons of foreign athletes and civil diplomats to promote South Korea as a kind and friendly country.
