Jamaica's Usain Bolt, the world’s fastest man, was disqualified for jumping the gun in men’s 100-meter event the the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, which is under way in Daegu. The double world and Olympic sprint champion was widely expected to retain his world championship title.

Bolt was so shocked that he failed to pick up his strength and leave the field. After Bolt left the track, the race resumed and 21-year-old Yohan Blake of Jamaica ran for his first gold medal in the world championships. He crossed the finish line with a time of 9.92 seconds.

Had he not been disqualified, Bolt would have been running for his third title in the championships.

Following his unexpected disqualification, attention is being paid to whether he will live up to his reputation in the 200-meter event or if a new world's fastest man will emerge.
