The ruling and opposition parties are wishing for the success of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics that opens in Daegu Saturday evening.

Spokesman for the ruling Grand National Party Kim Ki-hyun said the Daegu competition is considered the most systematically prepared championships in world athletics. He added that now is time to show the world the potential power of South Korea.

Main opposition Democratic Party spokesman Lee Yong-seop expressed hope that the global sporting event will contribute to world peace and the unity and harmony of South Korean people.

A spokeswoman for the minor opposition Democratic Labor Party anticipates the games in Daegu will be an event marked by humanitarianism and peace.
