Star athletes from around the world are arriving in Daegu with the opening of the IAAF World Championships in Athletics just one day away.

Russian pole vaulter Yelena Isinbayeva is set to compete in the games. She was the first woman to clear the five-meter barrier and has set the world record 27 times.

China’s 110 meter hurdler, Liu Xiang, also arrived in South Korea amid enthusiastic welcome. The Chinese athlete has gone through a slump since he was injured in the Beijing Olympic Games in 2008. He must defeat strong rivals such as Cuba’s Dayron Robles and the U.S.’ David Oliver, to win the gold medal in Daegu.

Olympic gold medalist sprinter Usain Bolt, and U.S. sprinters Allyson Felix and Carmelita Jeter will also compete in the global sporting event.
