Daegu Opening Ceremony to Feature Tradition, Technology

The opening ceremony of the Daegu World Championships in Athletics will showcase a mix of Korean traditional culture and the prowess of South Korea's information technology.

The ceremony that will begin 6:30 p.m. Saturday at the Daegu Stadium is composed of five phases. The phases are named coming together, refining, awakening, sprinting and setting afloat.

In the first stage, the audience will enter the stadium. Student cheerleaders from the North Gyeongsang Province region will follow and perform. Eventually, officials of the International Association of Athletics Federations and the International Olympic Committee will enter.

The highlight of the opening ceremony is the final setting-afloat phase which will feature songs and a media art show using the latest technologies.
