The South Korean icebreaker, "Araon," has returned to Alaska after successfully completing its exploration of the Arctic.

The Araon, carrying 83 researchers and crewmembers, returned to the Port of Nome in Alaska on Monday after three weeks at sea.

The researchers on the Araon studied the effects of global warming on the Arctic and gathered various data that will be used to study causes of erratic weather and how to address such phenomena.

The Araon also used the opportunity to test its navigation skills in the icy waters to develop a new sea route in the Arctic Ocean amid the melting of glaciers.
