South African amputee runner Oscar Pistorius has arrived in Daegu to compete in the 2011 IAAF World Championships.

Pistorius in short pants and a baseball cap received a warm welcome by some 30 citizens on Saturday night after arriving in the city on a high-speed KTX train.

The double amputee shook hands with the citizens and took photos with them at the Dongdaegu Station.

Pistorius told reporters that it is his first time in South Korea and that he is very happy and excited about the warm reception.

The 24-year-old athlete will compete in men’s 400 meters and 1600 meter relay events.
