Record No. of Nations to Compete in Daegu Championships

A record number of countries are expected to take part in this year's World Championships in Athletics, which will be held in South Korea's Daegu City from August 27th to September fourth.

Vice chairman of the game's organizing committee Mun Dong-hu says the International Association of Athletics Federations has closed its entry registration. He says 206 countries out of the association's 212 member states have applied to compete, which is the highest yet recorded in the organization’s history.

The number of athletes and staff is also expected to reach a record three-thousand-550.

The vice chairman says the IAAF will soon announce the official entry results, but that these figures will likely stand as they are.

An estimated 90 percent of tickets have been sold as of Tuesday for the 454-thousand total available seats at the championship events.
