Summer Heat Sweeps Nation

A heat wave is sweeping across the nation as daily highs reached the mid-30s on Friday.

Afternoon highs hit 36-point-two degrees Celsius in Gochang, North Jeolla Province to mark the hottest day for this year. Mercury climbed to 36 degrees in Hongcheon, Gangwon province, 35-point-two degrees in Gwangju, Jeolla province, and just over 34 degrees in Seoul.

The Korean Meteorological Administration said that Typhoon Muifa is pushing warm air north as it approaches China, forecasting many parts of the nation will see tropical night temperatures on Friday.

The weather agency, however, expects temperatures will drop two to three degrees on Saturday as the typhoon brings rain from the southern region.
