Written: 2011-08-03 07:28:10Updated: 2011-08-03 17:34:01

Typhoon Muifa will bring rains to Jeju Island on Saturday and the rest of the nation on Sunday as it travels from waters south of Japan towards Shanghai.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said strong rain clouds at the center of the typhoon are unlikely to deliver direct blows to the Korean Peninsula, but showers are expected throughout the nation on Sunday.

High waves are forecast in waters off the south coast of Jeju Island from Wednesday afternoon and in waters off the south coast of the peninsula from Thursday afternoon.

Concerns of possible tsunami damage have been raised for west coast areas between Sunday and Tuesday.
