A rain advisory remains in place for the western parts of South Gyeongsang Province on Tuesday.
The Korea Meteorological Administration has maintained the advisory after southern coastal areas and regions around Mount Jiri saw some 150 millimeters of rain on Monday.
The weather agency forecast that the coastal regions of South Gyeongsang Province will continue to see up to 40 millimeters of rain per hour accompanied by strong winds and lightning on Tuesday.
The coastal areas of South and North Gyeongsang Provinces are expected to experience up to 80 millimeters of rain on Tuesday while 20 to 60 millimeters could fall on the central region and inland areas of Gyeongsang Province.
Meanwhile, Typhoon Muifa, the ninth typhoon of the season, is heading north from the southern coasts of Japan.
The powerful typhoon is expected to reach Shanghai sometime this weekend before moving toward China’s eastern coasts.
As a result, the weather agency forecast that heavy rainfall will affect Jeju Island on Saturday before spreading nationwide on Sunday.
