Rain Advisories Issued in Southern Regions

Heavy rain began falling on the southern part of the nation early Monday prompting rain advisories for Jeju Island, the inland areas of Jeolla Province and eastern South Gyeongsang Province.

The Korea Meteorological Administration says the rain clouds will pass through the south and the Jiri Mountain area during the day bringing as much as 50 millimeters of rainfall per hour accompanied by strong winds and thunder.

Roughly 120 millimeters of rainfall is forecast in the south coast and near Mount Jiri, while 30 to 80 millimeters are expected in the southern inland regions and Gangwon Province. Capital Seoul and Gyeonggi and Chungcheong provinces could see up to 60 millimeters of precipitation.

Typhoon Muifa, the ninth typhoon of the season, is heading north and will bring showers to Jeju Island this weekend.
