'Warm Air from Subtropical Regions Cause Torrential Rains'

The weather agency says warm and humid air from subtropical regions has caused the recent torrential rains that hit the central region with some 400 millimeters of precipitation from Tuesday.

The Korea Meteorological Administration said on Wednesday that the central region has been suffering from heavy rainfall in localized areas as hot and humid air blown from subtropical regions meets cooler air from north on the Korean Peninsula.

The agency added that atmospheric conditions around the peninsula are stagnant, thus continuously causing downpours in certain areas.
