Daily highs climbed higher on Tuesday, with the mercury in Jeolla Province rising to thirty-six degrees Celsius at one point during the day.
Afternoon highs marked thirty-six-point-one degrees Celsius in Jangheung, South Jeolla Province, thirty-five-point-eight degrees in Gochang, North Jeolla Province, thirty-four-point-seven degrees in Buyeo, South Chungcheong Province, and thirty-two-point-seven degrees in Seoul.
The Korea Meteorological Administration attributed the high temperatures to typhoon Ma-on, which is pushing up warm air as it approaches Japan. The agency also attributed the hot weather to a foehn phenomenon, as wind blowing from the east heated up going over the Taebaek Mountains.
The heat wave is forecast to continue through Wednesday with temperatures expected to rise to thirty-five degrees Celsius in Daegu, thirty-three degrees in Seoul and Daejeon, and thirty-two degrees in Daegu.
