S.Korea Announces Plans to Support 2018 Pyeongchang Olympics

The government has unveiled its plans to successfully host the 2018 Winter Olympics in Pyeongchang.

Culture, sports, and tourism Minister Choung Byoung-gug briefed the plan on Thursday. The five-point plan calls for creating an organizing committee within three months, establishing laws to support the Olympics, as well as launching a campaign to encourage winter sports among youngsters. The plan also aims to make the Winter Games environmentally friendly and profitable for the South Korean economy.

The prime minister’s office will reportedly host a periodical committee meeting to monitor the preparations for the games and to streamline the efforts of all government agencies for the winter event.

Choung also said that the government will try to recreate the success of the 1988 Seoul Summer Olympics and the 2002 World Cup seven years later in Pyeongchang.
