S.Korea to Participate in CISM in Brazil

The Defense Ministry said that some 163 athletes and committee members will take part in the 2011 CISM Military World Games in Rio de Janeiro from the 16th to the 24th.

The athletes will be led by the South Korean Army’s Brigadier General Kim Hyeong-su in 12 events. They are mostly from the Korea Armed Forces Athletics Corps.

Participants in some of the events, including skydiving and triathlon, were selected from an elite crop from the Republic of Korea Special Warfare Command and other military units.

At this year’s Games, some eight thousand will attend from 110 nations around the world. North Korea is also known to be planning to dispatch a 64-member squad.
