Bid Committee for Winter Olympics Leaves for Durban

The nation’s Winter Olympic bid committee is on its way to Africa to attend the General Assembly of the International Olympic Committee which will decide the host of the 2018 Olympic Winter Games.

The committee departed for Durban on Friday as the IOC will vote on Wednesday to select the host nation for the the winter sports event. South Korea’s Pyeongchang, Germany’s Munich and France’s Annecy are in the running.

Bidding committee chairman Jo Yang-ho, Korean Olympic Committee President Park Yong-sung and figure skater Kim Yu-na will join the bid committee on Saturday after they leave Togo following their attendance at the General Assembly of the Association of National Olympic Committees of Africa.

President Lee Myung-bak is also set to visit Durban and take active part in promoting Pyeongchang’s bid to host the winter games.
