S.Korea Develops Nanoparticles that Kill Cancer

South Korean scientists have developed a nano-magnet that can kill cancer cells.

The treatment kills cancer cells with heat by spinning 15 nanometer magnet particles that have been injected in the cancer cells.

A team at Yonsei University led by Professor Cheon Jin-woo administered the magnets to cancerous lab mice and found the therapeutic efficiency of the new treatment is superior to that of a common anticancer drug.

During the treatment, scientists say electric current flows into the nano-magnet particles which will spin and generate heat to destroy cancer cells.

Heat treatment is often used in treating cancer since cancer cells are destroyed at temperatures over 42 degrees Celsius.

This study is published in the renowned journal of Nature Nanotechnology.
