A total lunar eclipse occurred early Thursday morning but only the early stages of the event were visible from South Korea.

A lunar eclipse takes place when the sun, earth and moon align, and the moon is hidden by the earth’s shadow.

This morning the moon was at a half eclipse shortly after two a.m. and at a total eclipse shortly after four. The total eclipse lasted for nearly two hours.

The second of the two lunar eclipses forecast for this year will occur on December tenth.
