Brain Research Inst to be Established in Southeastern Korea

A key research institute for brain science will be based in southeastern Korea.

The Education, Science and Technology Ministry held a meeting on Friday for the promotion of brain research. It said that the consortium of Daegu city, North Gyeongsang, and the Daegu-Gyeongbuk Institute of Science and Technology (DGIST) has been selected to establish the institute.

The consortium scored more than 84 points in an absolute evaluation, which exceeds the minimum qualifying score of 70.

The institute will be established as part of the DGIST. Construction will begin in 2012 and the institute will open in early 2014.

The government will give a total of 63-point-eight billion won in support of the project. The provincial government will provide the land and pay for the construction work.
