KARI to Develop Space Rocket KSLV-2

The Korea Aerospace Research Institute has released the conceptual design for the nation’s next space rocket that is expected to be launched in ten years.

According to the design, the Korea Space Launch Vehicle-2 or KSLV-2 will be 50 meters long and weigh 200 tons, with a maximum diameter of three-point-three meters. The nation’s first space rocket “Naro” is 33-and-a-half meters long.

In order to carry a one-and-a-half ton satellite, the KSLV Two will be powered by four engines with 75 tons of thrust in the first stage, a single 75-ton-thrust engine in the second stage and an engine with five to ten tons of thrust in the third stage.

The institute said that based on the conceptual design, it will decide the size of the rocket and engines.

The institute is developing the KSLV Two to launch at the Naro Space Center in 2021 to put a one-and-a-half ton satellite into Earth’s orbit.
