S.Korea to Issue Commemorative Coins for World Athletics Championships in Daegu

The Bank of Korea (BOK) says that a commemorative coin will be issued to mark the International Athletic Associations Federations World Championships that will be held in Daegu this August.

The BOK Monetary Policy Committee said Thursday that some 30-thousand commemorative coins would be minted on August eleventh to commemorate and generate publicity for the athletics meet.

The coins will be silver and have a face value of 50-thousand won. Each will measure 33-millimeters in diameter and weigh 19 grams. The head of the coin will depict the high jump and track events and the tail will have the championship emblem.

The BOK said that 27-thousand will be sold in South Korea, and the remaining three-thousand will be sold overseas. The bank will be taking pre-orders from overseas commemorative coin dealers.
