South Korea’s bid committee for the 2018 Winter Olympics says it successfully briefed International Olympic Committee (IOC) members on its intent to host the winter games.
The committee said Thursday that it had thoroughly conveyed its determination to open new horizons for the sports event during the IOC’s technical briefing that was held Wednesday in Lausanne, Switzerland.
South Korea’s Pyeongchang gave its presentation after Germany’s Munich and France’s Annecy briefed the committee on their proposals. Olympic figure skating champion Kim Yu-na drew big applause at the briefing after she shared her dreams for the winter event in fluent English.
The bid committee said that some IOC members, including those from Norway and Japan, highly assessed Pyeongchang’s proposal. They said Pyeongchang has made significant progress in its bidding efforts compared to the two previous times it bid to host the winter Olympic games.
The IOC will hold a general assembly meeting on July sixth in Durban, South Africa to choose the host of the 2018 Winter Olympics.
