The Korea Academy of Science Technology says the levels of radiation currently found in the country are not high enough to affect people and the environment.

Issuing a statement on Friday, the academy stressed that the nation needs to steadily monitor the environment and radiation levels in order to dispel any public jitters.

The academy also called on the government to swiftly and thoroughly release all measurement data on radiation and to include civilian experts and civic groups in radiation measurements and evaluation.

At an emergency radiation forum, the academy reaffirmed that experts on air, food and water generally view the amount of radiation currently found in the country is harmless to human body.
