Outgoing FIFA Vice President Chung Mong-joon has been nominated as an honorary vice president of the organization.

The FIFA Executive Committee on Friday recognized Chung's contribution to the development of world football over the past 17 years and unanimously nominated him to be an honorary vice president.

His candidacy is pending until final approval is secured on June first at a FIFA general meeting.

Chung, who lost his bid for a fifth term as FIFA vice president in January, may attend FIFA meetings until his term ends in June but has no voting rights.
