Advisory Issued for Telecom Firms on Solar Explosion

The Korea Communications Commission's Radio Research Agency has issued an advisory for telecommunications companies and related state agencies in relation to a recent solar explosion.

The sun unleashed a powerful solar flare at 10:50 a.m. Tuesday, Korean time, from a sunspot region.

The agency said that the flare was categorized as Class M and is expected to affect satellite communications, broadcasting, and radio waves for mobile phones.

The agency urged telecommunications companies and state agencies to produce measures to cope with the effects of the explosion, saying that high-energy electrified particles emitted from the sun can affect satellite and solar panels, thus weakening the signals from satellites.

The agency added that the effects on the earth will continue for about two to three days.
