S.Korea Edges Uzbekistan to Finish 3rd at Asian Cup

South Korea beat Uzbekistan 3-2 on Saturday morning, Korean time, to secure a third-place finish at the Asian Cup in Doha, Qatar.

Koo Ja-cheol and Ji Dong-won scored all three of South Korea’s goals in the first half at Al-Saad Stadium. Koo is currently tops in the tournament in terms of goals scored with five.

With the win, South Korea also secured an automatic berth in the next Asian Cup in 2015 in Australia.

Following the win, South Korea’s veteran star defensive back Lee Young-pyo, who played in his 127th international match on Saturday, announced that he will no longer participate in international matches for Team Korea.

Japan will play Australia in the Asian Cup finals at midnight on Saturday night, Korean time.
