S.Korea Loses to Japan in AC Semifinals

South Korea has failed to advance to the final round of the Asian Cup after losing to Japan in a penalty shootout.

In the semifinal match held Tuesday night, Korea time, at Al Gharafa Stadium in Doha, Qatar, the two sides played to a 2-2 draw after finishing the extra session.

But archrival Japan ended up winning 3-0 in a penalty shootout.

South Korea had been seeking to win its first Asian Cup title in 51 years this year. Team Korea has failed to advance to the Asian Cup final for 23 years since finishing second in the 1988 games.

Team Korea will play the loser of the Uzbekistan and Australia match in hopes of securing a third place finish on Friday night.
