Team Korea Beats Bahrain to Open Asian Cup

The South Korean soccer team kicked off its campaign to seize the Asian Cup by defeating Bahrain 2-1 on Tuesday in Qatar.

Midfielder Koo Ja-cheol scored both of Korea’s goals, with the first coming in the 39th minute in the first half and the second in the seventh minute of the second half at the match held at Al Gharafa Stadium in Doha.

Bahrain’s only goal came in the 85th minute on a penalty kick that was awarded to Bahrain after South Korean defender Kwak Tae-hwi was red carded.

With Tuesday’s win, South Korea ranks second in Group C with three points. Australia, which beat India 4-0, is leading the group.
