South Korea will continue to bolster development in space this year, as it seeks a third launch of its first space rocket and the placing of a new weather satellite into orbit.
Preparations will be made for the third launch attempt of the nation's first space rocket, the "Naro." South Korea failed in its previous two attempts to launch the rocket that was jointly developed by South Korea and Russia.
The date of the third launch will be set after South Korea and Russia complete their review of the most recent failed launch and take measures to prevent a recurrence.
The "Arirang No. 5" domestic all-weather observation satellite will also be launched this year from a Russian space facility in July.
Last year, South Korea launched its first geostationary ocean-weather satellite, the "Cheollian."
The know-how gained from the Naro and Arirang launches is expected to help the nation develop its own space launch vehicle.
