FIFA Vice Pres. Optimistic about S.Korea's Bid for 2022 World Cup

FIFA Vice President Chung Mong-joon says there is a strong possibility that South Korea will host the 2022 World Cup.

Chung on Monday told a news conference that four nations in the Asia-Pacific region are vying to host the 2022 event and are up against the United States, and that votes could be divided.

Chung added that over the next ten days, South Korea will seek to build solidarity in Asia and then move on to the next stage in which the nation will be named the host.

The world body is scheduled to vote to pick the hosts for the 2018 and 2022 World Cup on December second in Switzerland.

The nation's bidding committee also vowed its best efforts to appeal for support from the 22 members of the FIFA executive committee.

Currently, South Korea, Australia, Japan, Qatar and the U.S. are vying to host the 2022 event.
