S.Korean Team Reinforces Evidence of Supersolid State

A South Korean research team has presented new evidence that a substance with no viscosity, or a supersolid state, exists.

A team led by professor Kim Eun-seong in the department of Physics at the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) says that liquid helium, when cooled and pressurized, can become frictionless due to supersolidity.

Kim first made the discovery in 2004, but his experiment results were questioned thereafter. Additional experiments by Kim’s team in response to the critics reinforced his original results.

The results were published Thursday in the journal Science Express.
