S.Korea Adds Golds in Shooting, Taekwondo, Bowling, Fencing

South Korea has added more gold medals at the Guangzhou Asian Games on Thursday, the seventh day of the sporting event.

Park Byeong-taek scored 586 in the men’s 25-meter center fire pistol event to win the gold medal over Liu Yadong of China, who put up a final score of 585.

The team of Han Jin-Seop, Kim Jong-hyeon, and Lee Hyeon-tae won the men’s 50-meter rifle three position team event. Han also won the singles gold in the same event, his third gold medal of the Games.

The nation won two gold medals in taekwondo. Heo Jung-nyoung beat Zheng Yi of China to take the gold medal in the men's over-87 kilogram taekwondo event. Lee Sung-hye also defeated Hou Yuzhuo of China to win the gold medal in the women's under-57 kilogram category.

In bowling, Choi Jin-a and Gang Hye-eun captured a gold in women's doubles. The silver medal went to compatriots Son Yun-hee and Hong Su-yeon.

Kim Hye-lim shut out Hong Kong's Au Sin Ying 15-7 in women's individual sabre, nabbing the country's first gold in fencing in this year's Asiad. Kim Won-jin brought the nation another gold in men's individual epee beating out China's Li Guojie 13-11.

In a closely watched swimming event, South Korea's Park Tae-hwan won a silver medal in the men’s 15-hundred-meter freestyle. China's Sun Yang set the Asian record of 14:35.43 to take the gold.

In baseball, South Korea advanced to the final by trouncing China 7-1. Kim Ga-yeong won a silver medal in the women’s eight-ball pool singles.

South Korea currently sits in second place after China with 37 gold, 30 silver and 40 bronze medals.
