China: Mt. Baekdu Eruption in Near Future Unlikely

The China Earthquake Administration believes Mount Baekdu, a dormant volcano, is unlikely to erupt in the next few years.

The agency reportedly said at a meeting on earthquakes with delegates from South Korea, China, and Japan held on South Korea's Jeju Island Wednesday that it has been monitoring Mount Baekdu for the past ten years.

The Chinese delegation says the volcano, which straddles the Sino-North Korean border, will most likely not erupt anytime soon. The announcement comes amid concerns that an eruption may be imminent.
