S.Korea Adds 2 Gold Medals in Shooting at Asian Games

South Korea has added two gold medals in shooting at the Asian Games in Guangzhou, China.

On the sixth day of the sporting event Wednesday, Hong Seong-hwan won the gold in the men’s 25-meter standard pistol event with 575 points, defeating North Korea’s Kim Jong-su who put up 573 points to take silver.

Hong and two other South Korean shooters --- Jang Dae-kyu and Hwang Yoon-sam --- also won the gold medal in the men’s 25-meter standard pistol team event.

A team of female South Korean shooters --- Lee Na-rae, Na Yoon-kyung and Kwon Na-ra --- won the silver medal in the women’s 50-meter rifle three position team event.

South Korean swimmer Park Tae-hwan, meanwhile, advanced to the final of the men's 100-meter freestyle event after coming in first with a time of 49-point-85 seconds in the semifinals. The final will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

Park earlier grabbed gold medals in the 200- and 400-meter freestyle events.

South Korean soft tennis player Kim Ae-kyung advanced to the women’s singles final after defeating Taiwan’s Chang Wan Chi. Another South Korean, Kim Kyung-ryun, took the bronze in the same event.

Swimmer Park Min-kyu will compete in the men’s 100-meter freestyle final, while female swimmers Jeong Da-rae and Back Su-yeon will participate in the women’s 200-meter breaststroke final.

South Korea is currently ranked second with 24 gold, 18 silver and 29 bronze medals.
