S.Korea Prepares for 3rd Attempt at Rocket Launch

A committee of experts will begin the process of overseeing the third attempt to launch the nation's first space rocket, the “Naro.”

The Ministry of Science and Technology says a committee of 15 experts chaired by Lee Joon-sik, a mechanical engineering professor at Seoul National University, has been formed to review the launch preparation process and to ensure that the next attempt is a success.

The committee will review test results on the upper section of the rocket and the satellite that the Naro will carry. It will also inspect the launch plans.

The committee members were briefed at the Korea Aerospace Research Institute on Friday on the failed first and second launches. They will also inspect facilities and equipment at the Naro Space Center in South Jeolla Province.

The launches in August 2009 and June of this year failed due to technical problems.
